Various sensor technologies are available for direct monitoring of what potential contaminants or volatile substances maybe transmitted through the air handling systems. The fresh air intake of any facility is a very volatile potential point of disastrous substances being introduced to the fresh air delivery system within any facility. The security associated with assuring the fresh air intake and circulation points are not accessible to nefarious personnel or other activities that may lead to contaminating and potentially extremely hazardous foreign materials to enter the HVAC system is critical. We frequently recommend physical barriers at these points and unauthorized personnel detection, and then specifically with the HVAC units, the appropriate detection sensors to identify any abnormal variation in the quality of air movement.
Electrical and mechanical interfaces can easily be introduced for automation shut down upon detection, alternate air intake input capability, and all sorts of building control and life safety system initiation to ensure the appropriate personnel are notified of the location and type of foreign element detection as well as that of all appropriate personnel evacuation and notification process are automatically initiated.
