Safe Room Construction and Design

The Advanosys Security and Automation Technology team provides high level security technologies for all types of applications. For the residential world, the creation of a safe room can be as simple as designating a bedroom closet, portion of the basement, etc., as a place where in the event of major security concerns or life safety concerns (associated with extreme weather, etc.) is designated and outfitted to assure your safety during all events. In the most basic application, we recommend emergency notification equipment such as a duress initiation device and full communication equipment in that room. This can be a standard telephone line and/or the assurance of an operational cell or other communication device to allow for full two-way communication to occur during any event. Having the appropriate back-up power (at least to this small area) along with our recommendation for appropriate water, food and other necessities is part of this planning.

For the higher level applications to secure against both the potential of personal attack as well as that of assured safety during extreme weather activities, the designated room can actually require a substantial level of construction enhancement to assure that the area is impenetrable and would assure survival during the most egregious type of activities. For these applications a greater level of technology is incorporated, sometimes including the recommendation and securing of fire arms, assuring safe HVAC operation, and other construction requirements such as ballistic proof walls and/or structural integrity to guard against hurricanes, tornadoes, etc.
